First look at research to be presented at ESC 2016.

The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) 2016 annual congress will take place from Saturday, August 27 through Wednesday, August 31 in Rome, Italy.

For this year’s Congress Spotlight, ESC and its related organizations developed “The Heart Team,” which will underscore the importance of collaboration among healthcare professionals of all different specialties who manage and treat patients with cardiovascular disease.

In addition, 3 new tracks in surgery, stroke, and e-cardiology will be presented. The surgeon track will help bridge the gap between cardiology and cardiac surgery. The stroke track will highlight cardiac issues in stroke including catheter-based therapy of acute stroke and collaboration between neurologists and cardiologists. Finally, the e-cardiology track will highlight technological developments that are improving quality of care, including remote monitoring of implantable devices and e-Health applications in heart failure.

The Gladiators Arena—a twist on the conventional panel discussion—will feature “debates” between key opinion leaders on current issues in the field, and allow the audience to vote for the best argument. Topics include: ventricular tachycardia ablation, thromboembolic prevention after transcatheter aortic valve replacement, and stable ischemic heart disease in women.
